Prpa, Koenig & Rhoads added to U23 roster

The Energy FC U23s added midfielder Luka Prpa, forward Sven Koenig and defender Hugo Rhoads to the roster, head coach Chris Spendlove announced today. 

Prpa, a 5-10, 155-pounder from Wind Lake, Wisconsin took the Marquette Golden Eagles by storm in his freshman season, leading the team in goals (10), assists (6) and points (26).  His play earned him accolades like 2016 Big East Freshman of the Year, TopDrawer Soccer Best Freshman XI and NSCAA Great Lakes Region Third Team.  Prior to attending Marquette, he prepped at the IMG Academy, played for the U-14, U-16 and U-17 National and Olympic Development teams en route to being ranked as the top midfielder in the Midwest.

Rhoads recently completed his collegiate career with the University of Portland.  He appeared in 75 matches during those four seasons, scored five goals and added 17 assts.  He was selected to the All West Coast Conference team in each of his four seasons with the Pilots.  Last season, he signed with Rayo OKC.

Koenig has been a top goal-scoring producer in every place he has played.  In 2015, he led Hawaii Pacific University in goals with nine.  The following season, he scored 21 goals in 17 matches en route to earning PacWest Player of the Year honors.  He scored goals in 13 of his 17 matches, had five multi-goal games including three hat tricks.  His solid play continued last summer with KW United of the PDL where he scored a team-leading 12 goals which was good for fourth in the league.

Prpa, Koenig and Rhoads join midfielders Josh Taylor, Noah Keats and Eric Leonard; forwards Garrett McLaughlin, Ben Conway, Luc Fatton and Matthew Puig; defender R.J. Roberts and goalkeepers Austen Parker, Eric Dick, Ryan Krutz and Cooper Clark as players currently on the U23 roster for the 2017 season.

The U23s open their season in the 1st round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 10 on the road against the Tulsa Athletic at 7:30 p.m.
