BRADENTON, Fla. – Ottawa Fury FC remained undefeated in preseason play Thursday with a 2-1 victory against OKC Energy FC at IMG Academy. Gerardo Bruna led the way for Ottawa, with the Argentine midfielder tallying two goals – the latter on a game-winning penalty kick in the 67th minute. Bruna now has four goals during the preseason.

“I know it’s only preseason and I don’t want to get carried away, but the mindset that this team has already – and that ruthless desire to win – is something that I enjoy watching on the sideline,” Ottawa Head Coach Paul Dalglish said. “The guys made me really proud tonight. The trust they have in the coaching staff and in themselves is truly incredible to see.”

The preseason match consisted of three 30-minute periods.

In the second 30-minute period, Bruna scored his first of the game at the 34th minute when he intercepted a ball at the edge of OKC’s 18-yard box and fired a perfect low shot to beat the keeper.

Energy FC found the equalizer just two minutes later as Phillip Rasmussen jumped on a loose ball after a scramble to tie the score at 1-1 after 60 minutes.

Ottawa retook the lead with 20 minutes left in the game, when Bruna scored his second of the match on a penalty kick. The 26-year-old midfielder was brought down in the box and went on to take the penalty kick. He gave OKC’s goalkeeper Cody Laurendi no chance with a perfect shot to his right, giving Ottawa a 2-1 win.
