USL Game of the Week returns to Colorado Springs for key Western Conference clash

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and OKC Energy FC square off in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3 on Wednesday night at Switchbacks Stadium in a game that  will have a major impact on the USL Western Conference standings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 10-7-7, 37pts
  • The Switchbacks are looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Rio Grande Valley FC on Sunday afternoon at Switchbacks Stadium.
  • The defeat was only Colorado Springs’ second setback on home turf this season, and allowed the Toros to jump past them into third place in the conference standings.
  • Colorado Springs has scored only one goal in its last three outings, after playing to a 0-0 draw with Real Monarchs SLC on Aug. 8 and a 1-0 win against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on Aug. 11.
  • Switchbacks goalkeeper Devala Gorrick is second in the USL with a .800 save percentage, and third in the league with a 0.75 goals-against average.

OKC Energy FC news and notes

  • Current record: 9-3-10, 37pts
  • Energy FC notched a 2-0 victory against Tulsa Roughnecks FC in its last outing on Saturday night as Timo Pitter recorded a goal and assist.
  • The victory broke a four-game scoreless drought for OKC, and moved it level on points with Colorado Springs entering Wednesday night’s contest.
  • Energy FC goalkeeper Cody Laurendi recorded a club-record 11th shutout of the season on Saturday, and leads the league with a 0.60 goals-against average and .829 save percentage.
  • Switchbacks midfielder Rony Argueta had played every minute of the season until his red card against the Toros, and will be suspended for Wednesday night’s contest.

Series Notes

  • The Switchbacks took a 2-1 victory at Taft Stadium on the opening weekend of the season, earning some  revenge for Energy FC’s victory in the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2015 USL Playoffs last October.
