OKLAHOMA CITY -- On April 6, Energy FC signed 18 Sidekicks athletes to the 2016 roster at the Official Signing Event at SoccerCity in Oklahoma City.

The Sidekicks program aims to give athletes an opportunity to build lasting friendships with Energy FC players, as well as be involved in the soccer community in a fun and unique way. Eighteen athletes from Special Olympics Oklahoma, Autism Oklahoma, Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma, and TOPSoccer have been selected to participate in this year’s program.

“Special Olympics Oklahoma is thrilled to be a part of the OKC Energy Sidekick Program. Our athletes are so excited to be partnered with an Energy FC player for the season,” Derek Cain, VP of Development and Marketing for Special Olympics Oklahoma, said. “The Energy players are truly making a life-changing impact on these Special Olympic athletes, while giving them a once in a lifetime experience.”

Upon meeting their mentor, each of the Sidekicks signed an Energy FC contract for the 2016 season and receive a personalized jersey during a special presentation at SoccerCity. Everyone involved has a blast eating together and playing a plethora of soccer-related activities, such as soccer billiards, bocce ball, and high intensity soccer.

“We are very proud to be involved again with Special Olympics Oklahoma, DSACO, Autism Oklahoma, and Law Enforcement Torch Run, as well as TOPSoccer,” Energy FC Director of Strategic Communication Darren Ransley said. “To watch our players interact with our Sidekicks athletes and their families is truly awe-inspiring. Our athletes benefit through interacting with our soccer players, but in reality, the players gain just as much.”

Energy FC will host St. Louis FC in the second regular season match of 2016 at historic Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City on April 9. Season Seat Holders tickets are available by contacting the Energy office at 235-KICK or visiting energyfc.com.
