Energy FC U23 advances with 2-1 win over South Florida Surf

Noah Keats and Ben Conway scored during the first 20 minutes of the game to lift OKC Energy FC U23 to a 2-0 win over South Florida Surf in the second semi final of the PDL Southern Championship Conference. The championship match is against MidSouth Division rival Midland/Odessa Sockers FC at Taft Stadium at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 23.

OKC Energy U23 team took an early lead over the South Florida Surf thanks to Noah Keats. The team captain scored a penalty kick during the first 45 seconds of the match, after a handball in the Floridians’ box. Noah Keats scored his 14th goal of the season, the first ever for the Energy U23 team in the postseason.

Ben Conway then give OKC a two-goal advantage after his shot from 25 yards away was deflected by a Surf defender, and passt a diving keeper Andres Ruiz.

During the second half, the visitors cut the lead by a goal in the 65th minute.  Kamar Marriott headed in a ball from the top of the penalty area over the head of U23 goalkeeper Kyle Morton.  Despite heavy pressure in the final minutes, Energy FC U23 was able to keep South Florida Surf off the scoreboard.

With this win, Energy FC U23 advances to the PDL Southern Conference Finals against Midland/Odessa Sockers FC. The teams faced each other three times during the regular season, with Energy FC U23 holding a 2-1 lead. Kickoff is at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Taft Stadium.
