Chivas and Energy FC to meet in match at historic Taft Stadium

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Energy FC of the USL, will host Mexico's most beloved team, Chivas de Guadalajara in an International friendly match on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Taft Stadium. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM. This will be the first time that the Liga MX powerhouse will play in Oklahoma. Gates open at 5:30 PM with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM. Tickets will be available online at TicketsVIP.net, all three Supermercados Morelos stores in Oklahoma City, both OKC area Energy FC stores and energyfc.com/chivas.

Club Deportivo Guadalajara; often simply known as Guadalajara, and popularly known as las Chivas, is a Mexican professional football club based in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Guadalajara plays in Liga MX with 11 First Division titles, 7 Campeón de Campeones, 1 InterLiga, 1 Copa Challenger, 4 Copa Oros de Occidente, and 3 Copa México. Guadalajara is one of the ten founding members of the Mexican First Division and, along with longstanding rivals Club América; they have never been relegated to the second-tier division. Guadalajara was also the runner-up of the 2010 Copa Libertadores.

Chivas is led by the all-time team scoring leader and captain, Omar Bravo, as well as their promising young striker, Javier 'La Chofis' Lopez, Raul “el Dedos” Lopez, Carlos Salcido and Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña.

Oklahoma City Energy Football Club is an American professional men's soccer team based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is co-owned by local businessmen Bob Funk, Jr. and Tim McLaughlin. Energy FC is coached by former Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen. Known around the world as the “White Puma,” Nielsen guided Energy FC to the Western Conference Finals last season. Energy FC serves as the affiliate for FC Dallas (MLS). Energy FC is the only USL team playing Chivas as part of their tour through the U.S.

“Bringing Chivas to play Energy FC indicates that Oklahoma City continues its renaissance,” said Energy FC Co-owner Bob Funk, Jr.  “Our ultimate goal is to bring an MLS team to Oklahoma City.  One of the ways we will succeed toward that goal is to bring the soccer community together with events like this.”

Prodigal LLC is a local sports marketing company that operates the OKC Energy FC soccer team, co-promotes PBR (Professional Bull Rider) events in OKC and Tulsa, the new three-day TenaCity in downtown OKC, as well as various activities like St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Winter Shoppes at Myriad Gardens and manages production for OKC Fest.

Tickets starting at $40 go on sale at 10 AM this Friday, April 29th at all TicketsVIP.net, all three Supermercados Morelos stores in Oklahoma City, both OKC area Energy FC stores and energyfc.com/chivas.
